Free general transcription software

Are you wondering what transcription software is available for general transcription work? Are you confused or intimidated by all transcription software and don’t know where to start?

Don't be. Once you get the hang of it, it’s actually pretty easy.

There are several good transcription programs you can download for free.

After downloading and installing the transcription software and receiving an audio file, the software will recognize the digital file and the transcriptionist can open the file, hear the recording and transcribe it. Digital files are as easy to work with as the old cassette transcribers.

A footpedal and headset will increase transcription speed but you can use the hotkeys in the transcription program until you make enough money to buy the pedal and headset.

Here are some popular transcription software choices.

Free Transcription software for audio.
Free
Express Scribe transcription software
Express Scribe (free) is one of the most popular transcription software choices and works well to listen to audio files. You can use the keyboard to start and stop, slow and speed up. The free Express Scribe transcription software provides multi-channel control and file management.

Start Stop Universal transcription system
Start Stop Universal transcription system has features that include bookmarks, time stamping and more. The job manager can sort dictation by author, job type, time, length and more.
I also recommend start stop universal and the new start stop power play software. The software is built in, so you don’t need to use any other software with it.

This is an excellent list of software for transcription. I only recently found Express Scribe, and wish that I knew about it long ago. I own an Indiana transcription service, and discovered a good tip:

You can easily insert time codes into your documents, including Word documents, with Express Scribe. Simply go to Options>System-Wide Hot-Keys. Then add a hot key (I use Ctrl+R). Assign this hot key to "Copy time code."

Now, you simply need to hit Ctrl+R, then Ctrl+V to insert your time codes in any document, including Word. Also, you don't need to switch over to the Express Scribe window to do this. You can stay in Word or whatever document software you use.

This is a good site for the information about Legal Transcription. Many of Legal Transcription Companies are available in this corporate world for Legal Transcription Services. But none of those would be providing such a cheap legal transcription and Legal Transcription Outsourcing.
